The "wow" moments

MobyGames.com
We've all experienced them.

More often that not, they happen with your first game. Even after that, a game comes every once in a while that creates those same feelings.

While many vary from person to person, there are some moments within games that we all agree were amazing. Those "wow" moments, the moments that we see for the first time and never forget, ones that, when we think about them years later, we remember just how special they were (warning: some spoilers ahead).

Type-0, XV and first impressions

GameInformer.com
So Final Fantasy Type-0 came out last week...or the Final Fantasy XV demo. It depends on who you ask.

Type-0 is the game that comes on the disc, but its road to launch last Tuesday is one of those rare, but definitely not unheard of, instances where a demo that gets thrown in as a bonus generates as much, if not more, hype as the game being sold.

There is a lot of history behind both titles. Type-0 was announced in 2006 under the name Agito XIII, and received a Japan-only release in October 2011 on the PSP, taking almost four years and an HD remaster on the current consoles for the game to come stateside.

XV was announced at the same time under the name Versus XIII, and...well...it's been a long ride, one that still isn't over yet. The demo, that serves as a prologue to the full game's story, is actually the first time anyone has had the chance to play the game, and hopefully a sign that the wait won't be much longer.

The real selling point of Type-0 is debatable, although the advertising for it gives you a pretty big hint. But now that both Type-0 and the XV demo are out in the wild, I wanted to take a look at something that left me feeling very differently about the two; the first impressions they made.

Would going semi-annual make for better sports games?

The current collection of sports games in my house, although the all-time list
is way more expansive. And yes, I did buy two versions of MLB 14.
There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and Madden.

Although the same can be applied for most sports games; NHL, FIFA, MLB The Show, NBA 2K, they all get annual installments. And thousands of people - me included - show up to buy the newest editions of these games every year.

Some years are good, some are bad, others are just "meh." But in every case, just as the saying goes when your favorite team falls short, "there is always next year."

With the way the gaming landscape is right now, though, I don't think annual installments for sports games are really necessary anymore.

Rock Band is coming back, and that's awesome!

MiddleOfNowhereGaming.com
I woke up Thursday morning, and before I even looked outside to see how much snow had piled up outside, I checked my phone.

I didn't care about the snow after that.

Rock Band 4 is real, and better yet, it's coming out this year.
